i want to get something properly scaled but I do not know if it scaled to the right size.
I am having difficulty figuring it out.

Hey Joe_Bruno,
You could download Google Sketchup which is a free 3D modelling software. Then import the file and use the measuring tape tool to check a few side lengths.
If you struggle to work out scaling use this calculation. I use it all the time:
Desired length divided by original length
This should work perfectly.
