I have been doing tons of experiments with filaments lately from Proto-Pasta to ColorFabb and have been searching for more filaments to test. Can someone point out some new companies to try out?
I live in Atlanta, Georgia so expensive shipping from our friends over the pond is a major downside so I am looking for preferably a US company.
I would try out boots industries http://bootsindustries.com . They are in the premium price range and only deal in PLA but the boast about their 0.03 tolerance and I hear they have a really nice silky color. I haven’t tried it yet because their shipping prices are not the best (at least where I am north of your boarder) so I can get Colorfabb for cheaper but they might be worth looking into.
fargo3dprinting.com has pla. Like to know how good it is. Microcenter sells their brand called Inland. It is always stringy for me so I need to play around with the temps. It gets good online reviews.
I have a Micro Center right down the street from me so I normally use their’s. I have found it is either hit or miss with their quality. I have the same problem with the stings, only filament I have a problem with.
I use Inland almost exclusively and have great results with my makerbot rep 2 with a heated bed. i set the bed temp to 60c on blue tape. Nozzle set to 220c and all other settings left alone. works good for everything i do. the finish is less shiny than other more premium rolls like makerbot PLA but never bothers me or my clients.
I like Filamentive recycled PLA. They are based in the UK, but I could send you a bit if you wanted to test it out. I’m in CA. Are you writing a thread about your tests?
