I usually print in PLA but the printer (CT’C duel nozzle) came with a sample box of ABS. I’ve tried using it several times but cant get the print / ABS to stick to the plate all it does is end up wrapped round the nozzle!!! My settings are as follows :- Plate 110C, nozzle 220C, the plate is covered with Scotch 3M 501E and a smear of white quick stick glue (the type for sticking paper together as recommended by someone on the forum).
Has anyone got any ideas?
If this has already been discussed can someone direct me to the thread?
Keep leveling the bed until you are sick of it then do it again. Maybe set the temp to 230. Make sure part cooling fan is off. GO SLOW!
Bed level and nozzle gap will be important.
Thanks for the info. I got the spirit level out and played with the adjusters along with the usual piece of paper to set the nozzle height!!! and did as you said got fed up levelling the bed, BUT I’ve been printing for 20mins and everything is still stuck to the bed and the second layer is sticking to the first, only another 8 hours to go on this print to go!!! I’m printing an 1/19 scale open goods wagon for an outdoor garden railway hence the length of time for the printing.
Thanks again
Dennis
Great to hear! Now! When the ABS starts to warp like it is possessed you will be introduced to its real nature!
Getting the ABS to stick and keeping it stuck to the bed is half the battle.
ABS can be a real problem child but it can also make great prints so keep at it and google it up!
Thanks for the encouragement! Lol
If that happens I’ll go back to PLA when a reel of it arrives by post sometime this week!!!
you dont use a spirit level for leveling the bed. You are leveling it to the nozzle and making sure that its the same distance or fairly close in multiple spots on the print bed

What definitively always works for ABS is dissolving some in acetone and covering the build plate with that. Should be a very thin almost invisible layer. ABS does stock well to that.
Otherwise try a slower speed for the first layer and try to adjust the nozzle distance to the bed.
Thanks for that. Is that using an absolute clean build plate or on top of the tape?
I’ve had awesome success with builtak, it maybe sticks too well, and stops most warping
I use purple glue stick on laptop tape. Never fails sticks every time. I just wish I could get the old makerware software because the maker print doesn’t work for my printer. Can’t control print speeds
Sounds good, I assume you clip it to the build plate with small bulldog clips? Or do you strip the build plate clean and place it on to a clean build plate?
Thanks I’ll give it a try instead of the white glue stick
Strip the build plate clean, and its self adhesive sticks to the heated bed, you need to offset the z axis to allow for the extra height of the sheet
Thanks. Having looked it up on Amazon thought it would but needed to make sure
I use the 99Cent Store photo frame glass with purple glue sticks.
